How Psychotherapy Can Help
We all have a "story", which for many people turns into the "baggage" that we carry around with us. This can begin during our childhoods or as a young adult. Surprisingly, after carrying all this worry and tension around with us, one would think, how freeing it would be to get rid of this inner turmoil, but it can turn out just to be the opposite. This baggage can become your safety net and trying to release it can create the feeling of stepping out of your comfort zone, making all the uncomfortable feelings come to the surface. A habit develops by keeping these feelings tucked away by not addressing them leaving you wondering if life could be happier or more fulfilling. Taking a step towards feeling better can be difficult and scary but being true to yourself is about refocusing emotional and mental energy towards a new perspective. Seeking professional help can be a very important part of that, as based on your needs, the focus of therapy may be managing current issues or working more deeply with your underlying history that oftentimes is the root of current pain. Throughout the therapy process, by increasing emotional and cognitive awareness you will develop increased coping strategies, which help diminish emotional pain and conflicts and help you to live a more well-adjusted life.
