Couples come for helped when faced with overwhelming trust problems such as betrayals and infidelity, poor communications with continual fighting, misunderstandings and negativity overload. And some come for 'tuneups' to enhance their relationship satisfaction and smoothing out the 'ruts' and avoiding the 'pitfalls'. Incorporating cutting edge, evidence based methodology, communication tools and exercises, education and coaching, couples find immediate relief and lasting results. I specialize in Gottman Method Couples Therapy which is scientifically based and utilizing research validated methodology
Individuals come to my office with the pain of worry, fear, frustration, confusion, defeat, isolation, hopelessness and anger. Despite all of their efforts they haven't been able to solve their problems in dealing with themselves and others in ways that are fully satisfying and sometimes their efforts have even made things worse. Some people come to my office with the purpose of helping loved ones suffering from the pain of destructive behavioral patterns or unbearable emotions.
By understanding a person, a couple or family members' situation and problems and drawing upon my forty five years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist and my life experience as a parent, a spouse, a businessman, an educator and a friend, I am able to find new ways to understand and ease a person's suffering, evolve new solutions, tools and approaches to problems, resolve inner conflicts and fears and help people get back on track and create new satisfactions in their lives. I also coach people who want to achieve higher levels of success in their personal and professional development
I work with children beginning with age six, teenagers, adults, parents, business professionals and families including blended and adoptive families.
I have trained in behavioral therapy with Dr. Joseph Wolpe; trained in Modern Analytic Psychotherapy with Hyman Spotnitz; trained in Modern Group Psychotherapy with Dr.Louis Ormont and in professional development at the National Training Laboratories and trained with John & Julie Gottman at The Gottman Institute. I will help those that I work with to receive reimbursement from their insurance carriers. Most people with 'out of network' coverage receive insurance reimbursement. I try to make treatment affordable for those without insurance coverage by providing a sliding scale for payment.
My Role as a Therapist
The therapist's role is to assess and understand his clients and based on this understanding plan and implement effective approaches to help the clients to achieve their goals. To achieve this understanding the therapist has to effectively help each client to communicate their meaningful and relevant thoughts, feelings and experiences. Then using his own clinical and life experiences, knowledge of his client's life and psychology and his skills in both therapy and life the therapist, working in alliance with the client must devise and help his client implement the attitudes, understandings, strategies, skills and behaviors necessary to achieve their goals.
What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process
People need to cope with the demands of life and being emotionally overwhelmed makes that task very difficult. One goal of therapy is to help people become more effective in their lives and to do so it is important to help them to recognize, understand and resolve painful feelings without becoming overwhelmed in the process. Many clients come to therapy either emotionally overwhelmed or on the verge of it and I help them to leave each session less overwhelmed and in greater control of themselves. Clients develop trust in this process one session at a time. With each session clients are helped with my skill, knowledge and care to develop the confidence that their treatment is in good hands.
