Rick is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and is a Licensed Clinical Social worker in the state of Texas. He has been working as a therapist in both Pennsylvania and Texas for over 25 years. He has spent most of his career working with both individual and families struggling with trauma and addictive disorders. He is a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist, and is trained in EMDR both level I and level II. He spent 1-1/2 years of post-graduate training in Structural Family therapy at the Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Center in center city Philadelphia.

Rick's passion is working with people struggling with trauma that contributes to addictive disorders and their families. Trauma so often accompanies addictive disorders and Rick believes that unless the under lying trauma can be explored and resolved, recovery from addiction is almost impossible. His training in EMDR, a specific method for trauma has made even the most difficult issues resolved.

Rick has a gentle empathic approach that helps his clients feel safe, protected and most importantly understood. Addiction impacts all family members and Rick's ability to get family members engaged in the therapeutic and recovery process, allows each family member to go through their healing process.

Rick has been trained by and incorporates the work by some of the best internationally known leaders in the field of addiction, trauma, and codependency. Names like Dr. Patrick J Carnes, Dr. Stephanie Carnes, John Bradshaw, Pia Mellody, Dr. Susan Johnson and Dr. John Gottman.

Rick's personal journey through recovery allows clients a sense of ease. They know that he truly does understand the bumps and setbacks that can be part of one's recovery story. Individual, couples, family, group work and strong spiritual connections are all necessary as one embarks on their personal recovery story.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

It always amazes me how resilient people can be. It is a privilege to walk together with courageous men and women while they navigate roads that lead to change and become the person that they hope they could become. Rarely is the road to change a smooth one but with courage and guidance they trudge the often rocky roads we travel in our life.
