Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
This is a good question. Here are my suggestions:
Do an internet search in your area. For example: {Marriage Counselor, Mary Esther, Florida.} There will be a list of therapists that pop up in the search. Look through the list of licensed therapists that specialize in the area that you are seeking counseling. There are usually pictures of the therapists located next to their biographies? think about who you would be comfortable talking to? Man / Woman / Older / Younger
What kind of treatment will this therapist use? For example: If you are looking for a therapist that specializes in anxiety, you might be interested in knowing what technique they use. They might use guided journaling, cognitive behavioral techniques, or meditation just to name a few.
Another good question would be to ask how much their session fees are. Sessions normally run 45 to 50 minutes. My private practice takes most health insurance and provides reduced rates to individuals that do not have insurance. Our office will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. 850-226-6430
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
I believe we all need to see a counselor from time to time - it certainly doesn??t mean that a person is weak. Individuals seek counseling for many reasons: relationship enhancement, stress management, pre-marital counseling, parenting questions, self-esteem issues, learning how to deal with co-workers, decision making, blended family issues, or coping with life??s transitions just to name a few. As therapists, we understand how much courage it took for you to schedule your counseling session. Asking for help = strength.
