More Info About My Practice

As a fully qualified, accredited and insured therapy professional I have many thousands of hours of experience with over 500 individuals and couples.

I have extensive experience with online therapy, providing a convenient, safe, non-judgmental and anonymous (if you so wish) environment. I offer face to face sessions in London as well as phone sessions.

I make use of a range of therapies so I can tailor my approach to suit you. These include CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which focuses on how our thoughts affect our feelings and behavior), psychodynamic (views how we function as based upon the interaction of conscious and unconscious drives/forces within us) and humanistic therapy (focuses on acceptance, self-development and growth) as well as many branches within those three main approaches.

I'm a Clinical Hypnotherapist as well as an NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), Mindfulness Meditation and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Practitioner. EFT is a particularly gentle and effective technique for painful or traumatic memories as well as many other issues. As you can see, we have a varied toolbox to work with!

I find that the majority of us have faulty or low self-esteem, self-value or self-worth; therefore this is the root of my therapy practice. Dodgy self esteem leads to anxiety in many shapes and forms; it also often leads to issues in relationships, be it with spouses/partners, families, friends, co-workers or yourself.

Our self esteem can be damaged in many ways, most usually in early childhood through our parents (often without meaning to), the media, teachers, peers, society, specific negative experiences and so on.

The therapy process between you and I generally begins with reflecting on and gathering some information about how exactly this might have happened for you - then we have some material to make a plan of action together.

I have experience in and regularly work with a range of issues, some of which include: abuse, addictions, anger management, generalised anxiety, bereavement, grief, loss, body image, childhood issues, confidence, depression, disability, eating disorders, family issues, gender issues, IBS, identity, life transitions such as parenthood, separation, divorce and retirement, OCD, phobias, panic disorder/panic attacks, pain management, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), relationship issues, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), self esteem, self harm, sexual orientation, sexual issues, spirituality, stress, suicidal thoughts and trauma as well as the many other things that life can throw at us.

Therapy accepts and welcomes those aspects of ourselves that are judged, dismissed and ostracised, by ourselves and others. It is a place where we can take the pace down a notch and sit with something that is confusing and/or painful, allowing it to gradually reveal itself. Therapy encourages acceptance, it provides support, helps you comprehend and change negative patterns, can improve your relationships, allows you to gain different perspectives and heal from emotional wounds. Also, therapy with me is a constant dialogue - we talk about what's working, what's not working, what we can change. I'm not your teacher, nor do I have all the answers - this is a collaboration where we work together until you have what you need.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

I feel devastated for anyone who's had a bad experience in therapy. Unfortunately not all therapists are created equal, and not every type of therapy will suit you (a huge part of the reason why I've trained in many different types).

Therapy can be so incredibly enriching on so many levels that I hope you can give it another go. Ease yourself in by talking to a few therapists first - many of us offer a free consultation so you can get a feel for the vibe between us. If you have any questions or concerns, address them!

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

This is something that we will discuss in or prior to our first full session. Once a week is generally about right, but can be twice a week or every 2 weeks in certain circumstances. We might agree to work together for a specific number of weeks or months and then review, depending on your goals and resources. Remember that it is you who decides whether or not to continue!

Therapy often lasts around 4-16 sessions for specific problems, but more severe or complex issues may take a few months up to 1-2 years - every case is different.

Ending Therapy
You will normally know when you are ready to finish therapy, one or both of us will bring it up in session so that we can discuss and plan the final session/s.

What Makes up a Problem?

Anything that you feel could be benefitted by having some support. It might be something that you feel you cannot deal with on your own (either you have tried or you can't because it is too difficult/painful), or you simply feel that it would be more useful to have the help of a professional. Maybe you don't want to burden your frieds or family, or you have reached out to them and things didn't quite work out.

Everybody can benefit from therapy, which might come as a surprise to some people, considering the stigma and often incorrect perceptions around it.
