I help parents, so they can help their children. Parenting can at times be the hardest job in the world. My passion is to bring the joy back into parenting.

So many things can make your role as a parent confusing, frustrating. If you had a critical or unloving mother or father, you may be struggling to be a different kind of parent. Your child's behavior may trigger anger, and you may resort to yelling, even though it doesn't do any good. You may feel frustrated and exhausted before you even start your day at work. Your toddler might be throwing tantrums, or your teen might be rolling his eyes. You may be a single parent struggling to make all the decisions alone, and wondering if you're doing the right thing. Or, you and your spouse may argue constantly over discipline. You and your child may be emotionally struggling with divorce. Tensions might be high and communication stymied between you, your stepchild and your spouse. If your child has special needs, your stresses compound.

I can help you sort out whether your child needs one-to-one therapy, school intervention or specific help from you. When needed, I work with both parents to develop common ground when it comes to discipline, responsibilities and expectations. We might have family sessions to enhance communication and emotional connection in the family. I help parents cope with every phase of their child's development, from toddler to teen and young adult. I offer individual sessions with adults, children or teens. I also offer family sessions.

Through this work, each family member can find his or her voice, and feel heard. Tensions and conflict subside. Communication and harmony increase. Together we can create an environment of respect and nurturance in which each grows stronger.

More Info About My Practice

When we work together, I bring up-to-date knowledge and best practices. I bring unique professional experience from my prior career in education. And, I bring my own life experiences, which help me relate to what you are going through.

I completed my master's degree only a few years ago -- my third master's degree -- so my knowledge base is current, and I continuously add to my knowledge base. I can help you teach your child new behaviors and new ways of looking at things -- since that is what I did as a teacher for many years. I understand the demands was a teacher, so I understand how children learn -- concepts, positive social behaviors and emotional balance. I understand how to interact with schools and school district personnel, since that is what I did as an educational consultant.

I make it easy for you to get started. I offer Saturday and evening appointments. If needed, I even provide sessions at your home. I encourage you to call me for a free phone consultation. If, during your first appointment, I am not the right guide for your journey, you will walk away with no charge, and greater clarity about what you want and need.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

My life experiences enable me to understand some of the struggles that you may be going through now.

I know from deep down what it is like to be a parent. I have raised two children from birth, through the trying teen years, to a thriving early adulthood. As a working mother during many of those years, I felt all the pushes and pulls of career and parenting that you may be feeling now. I have had a highly demanding and stressful position -- far different from my current practice as a therapist. I can help you negotiate a way that nurtures both you and your family.

I have lived through the loss of purpose and self-worth one feels when the children leave home and the nest empties. And then, after a full career, I retired. All of sudden, another primary source of self-worth is vanished. Both are big life adjustments and also hugely rewarding opportunities to explore significant life questions.

I have experienced the satisfactions and challenges of a good marriage of many years. I have also suffered through an amicable but painful divorce. With humbleness and gratitude, I can say I have come out stronger and more mindful. I have embraced a new relationship late in life, and now experience the richness and the complications of a second marriage.

I had some excellent therapy that helped get me to where I am now. I believe that even if you have hit rock-bottom, you too can get through it and regain the well-being that you deserve.
