Hi, and welcome. I'm Ofir from Burnaby Square Counselling and No Fear Counselling.

If you're suffering now, please know that talking it out in a safe space can ease your pain. Sharing your pain can transform it, and we can work together to achieve your goals. When you share something, you can bear it. You don't have to do it on your own.
It can feel overwhelming and even impossible to reach out to a therapist. But just by searching for answers here, you've already taken a step forward. That step took a tremendous amount of strength and courage. My goal is to make therapy as easy as possible for you. Finding the right fit isn't easy, so your first visit is free.

I've worked with hundreds of couples and individuals to navigate a wide range of challenges. My priority is your growth and well-being. I use a person-centered, emotionally focused approach. These two empirically supported practices have been validated as effective in more than 100 studies. They can help you build a healthy relationship with your therapist, connect you to your deepest experience, and unleash that experience in the safety of a therapist's office.

You'll be heard at a deep level here, and I'll encourage you to connect while confronting that which pains you. I'll work with you to connect to the people closest to you. I'll help you feel accepted for who you are, so you can love and accept yourself.

I truly care about your well being and I look forward to beginning your journey to healing.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

A large portion of my practice is dedicated to growing my skills with couples in distress. I have worked with over a hundred different distressed couples. This is the work I enjoy the most, partly because it is the most challenging, but also because in every session, I get to witness the powerful changes in the couples I work with. It brings me such joy to see clients risk, what may seem like little to some, but to them, their whole world, and then get rewarded by their partners for this risk. This is extremely rewarding work, and the healing is consistent, and gradual, until they take it over on their own.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

To me, the purpose of therapy is to confront what is ailing you. The therapist is simply there to create the space for that confrontation to flourish within the client's experience. Little by little, a client may go from avoiding, suppressing, and reacting, to connecting, embracing, exploring, and releasing what is underneath the surface. Every moment of every session, a client takes a risk, and the therapist has a chance to hear, process, and reward that risk, which can make the client feel safe, heard, and empowered to continue to risk, both in the session, and outside the therapy in their own lives. That is so powerful that the change feeds on itself and the healing journey unfolds continually throughout the process. Ultimately, the purpose is to heal, and live a life you enjoy living.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

The two main frameworks that I work out of are person centred Rogerian therapy, and Emotionally Focused couples therapy. Both look at the person from a bottom-up approach. In other words, the unique individual that they are, and the unique experiences that they are having. That experience is brought to the present moment, and worked with experientially. We stay with the current experiencing and expand to the edge of that experience. In couples work, we take it further, and share the primary experience with our partner. We risk what is scary to share to ourselves, and when our partner sees the experience as it really is and turns to the sender, a powerful shift occurs. The person expressing has their whole existence from childhood to the present rewired in a way that can change their whole world, while giving insight to the receiving partner of what is really going on for their attachment partner.
