Beginning therapy is a big step. My role is to provide a warm and non-judgmental environment where you can express yourself openly and take whatever risks are necessary for your growth. How we move forward hinges on a shared understanding of how you got to this point, what makes you who you are, and how you work best. My goal is to help you live a full and rewarding life by overcoming whatever obstacles, internal or external, are standing in the way.

To get the most from this experience, it's important to work with someone that "gets" you and can provide meaningful input. Clients have told me they appreciate my straightforwardness, sense of humor and willingness to do what it takes to accompany them on their journey of self-discovery and healing.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

In addition to over 25 years of helping people with depression, relationship issues and all types of anxiety, I have significant expertise and experience in working with survivors of trauma, abuse and family violence.

Further, a number of people in creative and academic fields as well as those who come from different cultures have sought me out for my particular sensitivity to their concerns.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Self discovery is an important ingredient for personal growth and lasting change. This can involve anything from recognizing self defeating patterns to delving into the past to work through the roots of your pain. When you're stuck, sometimes it's because reason, emotion and needs are working at cross purposes and need to be considered together in order to move forward.

Self knowledge, though, is only part of the process. Sometimes, your coping skills aren't up for the challenges life has brought your way. I can offer a number of tools for improving you ability to handle difficult circumstances and increasing your emotional intelligence; including strategies for managing overwhelming emotions, more effective interpersonal skills and mindfulness.

At its best, therapy can integrate several approaches to address whatever issues have lead you here.
