It's hard to not get caught in a familiar cycle of thoughts and feelings in dealing with struggles. We may have friends or family to talk with, and while it's nice to have people close to us to talk with, sometimes they have opinions or advice to share because of how close they are to the situation. When we sense others have an opinion, it tends to shut down our own processing. Counseling provides the space for you to work through your own process in a safe and confidential way. You can say everything you need to say, and thus have the freedom to make your own choices, discoveries, and changes.

More Info About My Practice

A few areas of particular interest to me include group therapy, couple's therapy, and rock-balancing. You can find out more information about each area of interest on my website. My personal experience in each of these areas has been life-changing, and I believe deeply in the unique gifts each has to offer. If you have questions about group, couple's work, or rock-balancing, please give me a call!

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

It can be hard to take the first step of contacting a counselor. Maybe you can relate to the tendency of getting stuck in meeting day-to-day needs. We have plenty to keep our focus away from slowing down and asking, "What is really going on in me?" When we do slow down, feelings of anxiety, depression, fear, and/or anger may surface. Exploring what's leading to these feelings can feel overwhelming and like "one more thing to do," and so we find ways to adapt and push through. We're good at pushing through, and it feels familiar. Change is uncomfortable and it's normal to feel apprehensive about trying something different.

I believe there is a better alternative than pushing through, and that counseling can help you discover what this alternative will be for you. It takes strength and resilience to "push through," and counseling isn't about taking that away. Rather, it's about using that strength to discover a more fulfilling way of living life.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I am confident in the process of counseling because I know the positive difference it has made and continues to make in my life. As a practicing counselor, I believe it is fundamental to "do my own work." I am therefore familiar with internal challenges we face as a part of the counseling process. These challenges will be unique to each person; however, underneath them all is a vulnerability that requires courage to face, and having support in this makes a huge difference. It is oftentimes not easy to put into words my own struggles, and through this discovery within myself I learn more and more about meeting people where they are and trusting the process that unfolds in counseling.
