Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Coping with any sort of emotional trauma (particularly grief and loss, and recovering from a partner's affair) are of particular interest to me. I have both clinical knowledge of these life experiences along with personal experiences that have enriched the work that I do. I tend to use mindfulness based approaches in assisting people in coping with emotional pain, processing the experience, and eventual recovery. I have a mix of training in mindfulness based techniques, along with psychodynamic depth processing, CBT and emotionally focused couples therapy which allows me to work alongside the client's goals to find a therapeutic intervention that meets their needs.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

My own struggles and challenges in life have greatly shaped me as a person, and therefore, as a therapist. I have been in the client's chair over many seasons in life, learning and experiencing my own growth and healing. It has enabled me to understand and empathize with others beyond the clinical knowledge that a textbook provided me in my educational pursuits. There are some issues that you can relate to on a different level when you have experienced them yourself, things like death and loss, infidelity, grief, and so on. My life, though painful at times, has made me a richer person and I bring that with me to my work as a therapist.
