This is a big world, and navigating through it is not easy, especially when life's challenges create obstacles and bridges to cross. Making decisions is easier when we feel comfortable and confident with who we are, what we are doing and where we are going. Where we are today is a reflection of our decisions, yesterday. But, what factors influence the decisions we make? Experiences, in addition to physical, psychological and social circumstances all affect what paths we move through in our lives. Examining these paths, recognizing and understanding the stories that surround the decisions led us down these paths, and then thinking about where we are today and how we feel, we can then begin to make sense of our lives, determine what we would like to see, do and create for ourselves in our future.

More Info About My Practice

Although I am not accepting insurance at this time, I will do what I can to provide information to those who seek to submit insurance claims themselves. My fees start at $50/hour and go to $120/hour. I accept payment in cash, personal checks and credit card or HSA debit card. Please do not hesitate to communicate with me about your personal or financial circumstances. I will do what I can to help clients obtain the services they need.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I feel particularly close to and treat issues related to loss, worries and fears - life and death, major life transitions, addiction, criminal justice issues, self-esteem/self-image issues, relationship/social issues, multicultural dynamics, gender and sexual identity/orientation and personal life challenges.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

Having come to understand the value of my own life stories, I realized that everyone has a story. My passion for providing therapy to others is an extension of this. I enjoy the process of delving into the stories of peoples lives together with them and helping them make sense of those. It is an uplifting experience for me to see people realize truths and realities on their own, resolve issues, make changes and move forward confidently as a result of doing so.

My Role as a Therapist

My role is as a trusted partner, listener, sharer, counselor.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help

Generally, what I need to know from a person in order to help them in therapy is one thing: do you want help? Someone who is sincerely looking for help is a great candidate for therapy. This enables us (therapist and client) to readily establish a strong therapeutic relationship that will foster growth and wellness. While I believe that wanting help is key, I also believe that there are many clients who may feel reticent at first. I am happy to work with anyone, and hopefully in time clients will come to understand that as a trusted, nonjudgmental partner, my goal is to help you to feel safe, comfortable and confident during the therapeutic process.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

There is no question that life experience, genetics, and biochemistry play a role in our lives and on our mental health. The key is knowing the full story related to our lives to better grasp onto who we are. The discovery process and approach I take is to include all aspects of your world - experiences, culture/race/ethnicity, bio/genetic, and social/socioeconomic factors. Knowing why we are "here" and how we arrived "here" helps us to determine where we want to go next, and how we might achieve that.
