Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

One of my specialties is helping people that feel overwhelmed by their emotions take back control. I use an experiential approach to touching in to those emotions both cognitively and somatically, and by developing personalized techniques for when they feel unmanageable. We deal with the thoughts by mindfully approaching painful emotions with a sense of curiosity - getting to know them and their patterns so they’re not so scary. We examine how those emotions play out in the body with that same sense of curiosity, in an attempt to begin to view the sensations of “unpleasant” feelings as neutral events. As you become more comfortable with the sensations, and learn how to naturally release them, you develop confidence and a sense that YOU are in the driver’s seat, not your emotions.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

I employ Mindfulness and Acceptance Based modalities as well as Somatic (Body-centered) techniques, along with generous doses of humor, encouragement, and insight. Clients tell me that I am empathetic, accepting, and intuitive and that they feel understood and safe during our sessions.
