Having dealt with postpartum depression after my first child was born and extreme anxiety a few years later, I know what it's like to suffer from such debilitating symptoms. My only way out was to learn everything I could about how to get the help I needed and now I am able to offer that help to my clients.

My biggest annoyance as a client was sitting with therapists who didn't truly understand me or where I was coming from. They didn't hear me or my concerns and were only focused on finding a solution that didn't fit my needs. What I Usually Need to Know to Help

When starting therapy, it's helpful to know your background:

~ who your nuclear family is and then any other family that might play an important role in your life
~ whether or not you work or go to school
~ what has been successful for you in the past and why it is or is not working for you now
~ what triggered your current issue -- why are you seeking help NOW?
~ if you've had therapy in the past and what you liked and didn't like about it

The more honest information you can provide allows me to offer you the best help possible.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Therapy has, thankfully, become more mainstream and acceptable over recent years. Realizing that you have an issue that you cannot solve on your own does not make you weak or flawed. It actually makes you stronger to recognize that you need help and then to reach out to get the help you need. The most common example of getting help would be what flight attendants tell us -- You must put your air mask on before helping others and if you don't get the mental health you need, you will be unable to support your loved ones with their needs.
