I believe the most important element in the therapeutic relationship is the connection between therapist and client -- person to person. What I bring to the relationship is warmth, caring, and a gentle and compassionate presence. I have a deep faith in your ability to transform your life, empowering you to discover what works and change what doesn't, helping you find your own truth and path. My approach is gentle, yet potent. Within the context of a supportive and collaborative relationship, I use EMDR and EFT as highly effective tools to help you to release negative patterns and beliefs and build upon your positive resources and strengths.

We work together to enhance your skills and coping in the following areas: * Self-esteem, empowerment, personal and spiritual growth * Depression, anxiety, anger, grief, loss, stress * Trauma, abuse, PTSD * Relationships, communication, intimacy * Life transitions - marriage, divorce, career, birth, relocation * Pregnancy/infertility issues, postpartum adjustment * Women's issues, multiracial/multicultural issues

I have over twenty years of experience counseling clients from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of issues. I provide individual and group therapy and have extensive training as an EMDR therapist. I also have special expertise in treating postpartum depression and related disorders, and I facilitate a Pregnant and Postpartum Moms Support Group.

My Therapy Focus

The focus of my therapy approach is to help you to release traumatic patterns from the past. We all have negative experiences that have affected us in several areas: our behavior, feelings, and beliefs about ourselves. We learned to survive and cope with the experiences using a particular behavior such as by becoming the good girl/boy or the rebel, by shutting down and deciding to do everything on our own, by taking care of others and not recognizing any needs of our own, by escaping through an addiction. We may have certain feelings that have become prevalent and more easily expressed - anxious, fearful, depressed, or angry. We also developed a predominant negative belief about ourselves from our experience, e.g., I am not good enough, I am unlovable, I am unsafe, I have no control, It is all my fault.

It is possible to change these reactions to trauma. It is possible to no longer have the triggers that take us back to responding as we did as a child. We don't have to stay stuck there. When we are able to release the original trauma, we are free to respond differently. We realize we have a choice. We start to believe more positive ideas about ourselves. There are some cutting edge techniques that help process and release trauma. With those techniques, we can not only release the negative but enhance and strengthen the positive. It is truly exciting for me to be able to offer these mind-body therapies that can help transform lives.
