I welcome each client to Heartlandia Psychology to live a life of meaning, productivity, and creativity. The basic aim is the heart of a client---what makes her/his eyes shine, steps spring, and living buoyant. Together we answer the basic question: How can you feel valuable, value your life, and engender valuing from others?
Heartlandia Psychology fundamentally rests upon a philosophy of wholism. An entire system of living concerns mind and body flourishing within a setting, that is, the social and physical environment. Synchronizing these basic spheres optimizes living. My action-oriented practice fosters thriving by synchronizing systems of living unique for each client, whether an individual, a couple, a family, a small group, or a large organization.
Clinician, coach, and consultant are my professional approaches. Clinical work faces together ways life has splintered in order to heal, accept, and transform. Coaching optimizes essential health to make life better through wellness and prospering. Consultation identifies resources, barriers, and solutions to achieve aims. Together we determine whether clinical, coaching, or consulting work comprises our meetings. My "little black doctor's bag" contains a range of techniques to provide clients choice, with my oversight, to direct what occurs, where we aim, and who is involved. This collaborative approach counters the existential angst of separate aloneness by forming a therapeutic alliance. An example of an original, copyrighted cognitive processing approach I developed called Life Style Balancing illustrates the creative, powerful, and comprehensive techniques available. LIFESTYLE BALANCING Three steps comprise our strategic collaboration in Life Style Balancing. A universal structure of Four Major Spheres of Functioning is the template for Life Style Balancing: Physical Environment, Social Environment, Physiology, and Psychology. The way this universal four-part structure is colored is unique for each client First, we identify special goals, values, and aims. Who are you? What has your life been like? Where do you want to go? Next, we deconstruct your lifestyle, that is, you as a person (physiology, psychology) and your environment (social, physical). What resources do you have working for you? What problems plague you? What is omitted---what should be occurring and is not? Then, together, we strategically, collaboratively, and creatively actualize concrete outcomes with clarity contracts. Clarity contracts specify outcomes specifically unique for a client, whether one person, a pair, kin, small gathering, or large institution. This goal setting becomes the default operating system guiding us through subsequent sessions toward the identified goals. This approach can be short term or long term, depending upon client needs. Some other techniques from which clients choose include creative arts trauma treatment, mind/body stress management, cognitive processing, existential/Jungian analysis, family systems functioning, relationships and social skills building, bibliotherapy/cinematherapy/journalizing, psycholinguistics, pet therapy, spiritual/religious enhancement, and behavioral management like exercise (e.g., yoga, aerobics, dance), diet (e.g., nutrition, homeopathy, cooking), and relaxation (e.g., meditation, music, arts and crafts).

I actively engage in continuing education as well as serve as an officer for my national professional organization, the American Psychological Association. The business aspects of Heartlandia Psychology integrate social psychology wisdom into financial management. These arrangements embrace the concept of social exchange.
My practice is fee basis, paid in cash at the end of each session. Since insurance is not involved, diagnosis is not a concern usually.
