My approach is empathic, compassionate, and interested, and I listen closely to your needs and goals to then work with you collaboratively to address them. Most of us have times when our usual coping strategies no longer work, and we search for new ways to understand and respond to our lives, our relationships and ourselves. Therapy can help you understand yourself more deeply and make mindful changes to improve your life. I provide compassion and guidance to help you identify and work through your stuck and painful places and move towards a more calm and joyful existence. One of the most important aspects of therapy is the therapy relationship itself. Feeling respected, understood, valued and cared for by your therapist is essential. I approach each client with the belief that they are intrinsically good and worthy of care, and this will come across in my work with you. I have a strong commitment to honoring diversity in all its forms--race, gender, sexuality, economic background, political perspective, religion and spirituality.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work
I INTEGRATE A VARIETY OF THERAPEUTIC METHODS IN MY WORK, INCLUDING:
Relational--an approach that recognizes the importance of relationships in our lives and to our sense of self. It is through connection with others, including the therapy relationship, that we learn about ourselves, others, and the world.
Psychodynamic--a focus on our past experiences and the ways in which these experiences have shaped our conscious and unconscious beliefs and behaviors in the present day.
Mindfulness--a focus on non-judgmentally noticing and listening to our experience of the world and ourselves, an approach that can decrease suffering and increase acceptance of ourselves, our emotions, our histories, and our relationships.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy--a well researched and effective therapy that blends Mindfulness with real-life skills in Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
My work with you is informed by these well-researched practices, but is also flexible and dependent upon your own unique needs and preferences. I am open to your feedback regarding our work together, and see you as an expert of your own needs, experiences and desires. My overall approach is to provide a caring, respectful and intelligent presence in our work together.
