Clients have described therapy with me as transformative, insightful, and effective. My approach is warm, with use of humor and insight, but direct and immediately useful. I balance teaching skills for relief with resolving issues underlying the problem. My treatment is collaborative and individualized, and I build on strengths and engage families and significant others when possible. Clients discover the root of what is underlying their problems by exploring how their experiences have shaped their view of the world, their behaviors, and their relationships. I often have clients tell me that "this is the first time therapy has actually worked."

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
To be a part of a person's life when they are struggling, and to be a part of positive change is a privilege. My strength is my ability to see the best in people, to tailor treatment to the individual need, and to motivate people to achieve their goals. I love that my sense of humor can transform a moment, and that I still marvel at the resilience of people on a daily basis.
My Role as a Therapist
I create a trusting, respectful relationship that allows my clients to share without fear of judgement. My role is to build and maintain a strong relationship with my clients as a vehicle for change, and to provide treatment that will assist them in building lasting change. For families and couples, my role is to determine how the roles and behaviors of individuals and the system as a whole are harming, protecting, or elevating the family or couple, and to guide them toward healthy and effective ways to get their needs met. My role is be honest and direct, but to provide information and observations in a way and at a time that my clients can use it, and can receive it as an act of caring.
