My goal is to provide a safe, supportive and empowering environment where individuals and couples can explore traumatic histories, unresolved issues and relational difficulties that interfere with happiness. I like to emphasize the importance of increasing self-awareness in order to recognize unproductive patterns so that clients can move to a place of peace and self-acceptance. As an active participant in the process, and within the compassionate context of the therapeutic relationship, I use gentle challenge to help clients clarify emotional reactions, reveal maladaptive thoughts and uncover unhealthy behaviors so that healing can be possible. Part of this process is making connections between the past and their present in order to get rid of distorted, unproductive interpretations, to build healthier perspectives and restore hope.
It is important to me to work collaboratively and creatively because I recognize that no two individuals have the same needs, experiences or feelings. I draw upon my years of clinical work while also honoring the unique lives of each of my clients and tailoring my work to meet the needs of each person/couple I see in therapy.

More Info About My Practice
In my 20 years of clinical, academic, and advocacy experience, I have worked with individuals who present with a wide range of issues. I specialize in recovery from trauma (particularly childhood abuse/neglect, sexual assault and domestic violence), successful movement through life transitions (young adulthood, career, parenthood, mid-life and loss), and repair of interpersonal relationships (including a specialty in couples therapy). I have advanced training in both trauma treatment and couples therapy, which uniquely positions me to treat couples where one or both partners have a trauma history.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I specialize in helping survivors of interpersonal and complex trauma (childhood sexual & physical abuse, childhood neglect, sexual assault, rape, and domestic violence). Therapy focuses on building a safe, reliable therapeutic relationship, fostering emotional regulation skills, promoting safety, reducing feelings of shame or self-blame, making connections between past trauma and present life and processing the traumatic event itself.
I also specialize in Couples Therapy. I draw from the Gottman Method in my work with couples. This is a research based, goal-oriented approach to help couples build a more fulfilling relationship. I have advanced training in both trauma treatment and couples therapy, which uniquely positions me to treat couples where one or both partners have a trauma history. My strengths help me guide clients in couples counseling to: Enhance communication; Increase levels of trust, connection and affection; Work through betrayal/affairs; Identify interfering behavioral patterns; Resolve conflict peacefully and Increase respect and admiration. I welcome all couples into counseling: non-married couples, dating couples, pre-marital couples, same-sex couples, and non-married co-parents.
