Many people start therapy at a time when they want something to change, or want to make peace with things as they are. Usually it's some combination of the two. Living the serenity prayer is easier said than done, but is possible! Therapy is a place to get support, encouragement, information, and guidance to move in the direction of a more peaceful, successful life. You may have wrestled with a difficult past or a difficult present day situation in the ways you've known how, but now feel that like you've tried too hard for too long on your own. Maybe you are having symptoms of stress such as anxiety and depression, repetitive thoughts and worries that interrupt sleep and peace of mind, or chronic conflict with your partner, ex-partner, child, or other family member. If you are exhausted, frustrated, stuck, worried, or confused and are ready for some relief, know that relief is possible and available. Meeting with a good therapist is an excellent step.

I work with a variety of issues and ages including therapy for individuals, couples, and kids. Kids who need therapy are usually suffering or insufferable, or both. Physical, emotional, or academic symptoms manifest when a child or a family's coping abilities are over-stressed. At such times, professional support can improve and resolve these symptoms before they become a lifetime struggle.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

If you have had previous negative therapy experiences, it could certainly make it more difficult to try again. But, here you are, trying again, searching for a better experience. With everyone I work with, but especially someone who had a previous therapist who did not meet their needs, I have found that good communication between us, especially as we get to know each other in the beginning, is key. I believe in feedback and am known for being receptive and easy to work with.

In fact, having the experience of being able to ask for what you want and being responded to well, can be healing all by itself, and can help you get your needs met in other relationships. We all have our own style of learning and interacting - which includes learning style, personal temperament, preference for intellectual or emotional focus, among other factors. I take these into consideration as I work with you so we can work on the issues that are important to you in a way that feels most helpful, and at the pace that works for you.
