See other therapists in Walnut Creek, CA.
My clients typically come to therapy for treatment of anxiety, depression, addiction, alcohol use problems, codependency, grief, relationship concerns, adolescent development issues, trauma recovery, work/life balance, and navigating life transitions. Many of my clients came to therapy to heal the wounds from growing up in a family affected by alcoholism or addiction. I have experience facilitating therapy groups for adults with codependency and addiction issues. I have also provided individual counseling to teenagers and facilitated a therapy group for adolescent boys.
My approach is practical, supportive and solution-focused. I provide personalized treatment that engages each person?s strengths and values in the healing process. I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques, along with attachment theory and humanistic psychology approaches. During our first meeting, I will ask questions to learn more about you and what you hope to accomplish in therapy. We will then collaborate to determine the focus of your therapy and the best way to achieve your goals.

More Info About My Practice
My office is located near downtown Walnut Creek near the intersection of Ygnacio Valley Road and Civic Drive. It is a few blocks from the Walnut Creek BART station and there is a bus stop in front of the building for those using public transportation. People who come to see me usually live or work in Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill, Concord, San Ramon, and the surrounding area.
Both daytime and evening appointments are available to accommodate your schedule. Although I am a preferred provider for several insurance and EAP Providers, many people prefer to pay for services without using insurance because of the increased level confidentiality and continuity of care they enjoy outside of the managed care network. We will discuss fees, insurance, and your payment preferences during our first conversation, before you make your first appointment with me.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have a passion for helping adult children of alcoholics or addicts recover from the effects of growing up in a chaotic and often upsetting household. ACOA's import behaviors and expectations we learned in childhood into our adult relationships. The booze/drug may not be there, but we live as if they are still present. When that old pain gets triggered the only solutions are to hide our feelings, pull away, explode, or self-medicate. Trigger moments can become healing moments. As you process stuck feelings, you understand yourself better, and you separate your past from your present. And then it's time to start some new habits, build trust, honesty, intimacy, and good faith. In other words, enjoy life.
People often come to psychotherapy to heal the invisible wounds from growing up with an alcoholic parent. As adults they had grown up physically, but many felt emotionally stuck in an earlier phase of life. In therapy they have learned how having an addicted parent influences they ways they behave in relationships, at work, and in life. Over time, they have realized that they didn't have to live like that any longer and made changes that helped create more satisfying lives.
