On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

If you are struggling with whether or not therapy is right for you, please consider the following points: 1) It is a sign of

strength rather than weakness to acknowledge the need for and to reach out for help 2) Friends and family members

are not always able to be objective sounding boards whereas a therapist has the ability to be objective and the skills

and experience to serve you as a guide.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

I do not favor labeling people or putting them into categorical boxes. By virtue of being human, we all experience

stress in our daily lives. Stress manifests in each of us in different ways, both physically and psychologically.

Because few of us had perfect childhoods with perfect parents, as children, we made decisions about ourselves and

others and developed coping mechanisms that helped us survive and cope with stress. My job is to help you

determine whether or not your current coping mechanisms are still helpful and to teach you new skills which could

enhance your ability to cope with life stressors.
