We all struggle at times, whether with difficulties in our professional lives, unsatisfying relationships, how we feel about ourselves, or other issues. When we first meet, I will do my best to fully understand the reason you are seeking help. It is important that I appreciate who you are as a person, and not only focus on a particular diagnosis. Your needs are unique, and we will collaborate together to develop a treatment plan that will be most helpful for you.

I have been trained to use a number of therapeutic approaches. For example, perhaps you are looking for a more focused, short-term approach that addresses a specific problem or maybe you are interested in understanding yourself in a deeper way. Whatever approach we take, I believe that a trusting and warm relationship between you and me is an essential part to successful therapy. If you're visiting this page, you already know that the way you've coped with your circumstances hasn't worked.

Over time, we will work towards uncovering patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may contribute to your problem. You might discover strengths you'd like to further develop or traits or habits you'd like to change. Through empathic listening, challenging questions, and paying attention to the dynamics of our relationship, we will create the possibility of change. And while one goal may be to return to "normal," my ultimate hope is that you thrive.

More Info About My Practice

My office is conveniently located in downtown Washington, DC. It is a half block from the blue, orange, and silver line stop at Farragut West and one and a half blocks from the red line stop at Farragut North.

I do not currently work with insurance companies. I have chosen to do this for a number of reasons, but principally because insurance companies often dictate the amount, duration, and kinds of treatment they are willing to reimburse. It is my strong belief that these are decisions that should be made between you and me, not with an insurance company. I am happy to talk with you about my fee and am also willing to offer a limited number of clients sliding scale appointments. While I do not accept insurance directly, I am considered an "out of network provider."
Typically, insurance companies will reimburse between 50-80% of my fee. I understand that the financial investment in therapy can be scary, and I am happy to walk you through some of the steps you may need to take to navigate the process.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have been trained as a generalist and I feel comfortable working with most kinds of people and the diagnoses they may have. With that being said, over the years, I have accumulated some sub-specialties:

College and Graduate students: I have worked in college counseling centers throughout DC and I appreciate the unique pressures university students face such as the stress of separating from home, building your own identity, deciding on your career interests, developing relationships, and so on. Additionally, if you have a biological predisposition to mental health issues, this age can often be a time when symptoms may emerge for the first time.

Young Professionals: As a young professional DC area, I have a unique lens into some of the stressors that you may be going through. I can help you further your understanding in regards to your own career goals and how you can achieve your own sense of work-life balance. Also, this tends to be a period in life where issues of intimacy and commitment in relationships gets highlighted, and it can especially be helpful to use therapy to understand more deeply your wants and needs.

Substance use: I take a very curious and open stance towards substance use. Instead of immediately imposing judgment about what is acceptable behavior, I put more energy into exploring your own feelings about substance use. Together we can understand how substances may be functioning in your life and the costs that may or may not be associated with
