Improved relationships requires growth, and growth requires change. Therefore, as a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), I appreciate helping people who are prepared to change. We start by forming a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, and advance to assisting individuals with building healthier and more effective habits of thought. I work together with the client to understand that emotions are energy in motion; consequently, emotions will ultimately change. Through mindfulness, we will see that these changes in emotion happen throughout the day. Development of awareness regarding our emotional reactivity is based upon our thoughts about a situation. Our thoughts about a situation/stressor do not always reflect reality. This central transformation of personal awareness encourages a more real and rational understanding of reality. In addition, it enables my clients to mindfully tell their personal story from an increasingly strengths based and positive perspective. I utilize mindfulness, mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy, and family systems work (genograms). My collaborative approach supports clients by providing them with skills to improve their self-esteem, deepens their relationships with others, and ultimately allows them to see themselves, and their lives, in an increasingly positive and realistic light.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
I feel the purpose of therapy is to create a safe place for the client to tell his or her story from and empowered stance wherein he or she is able to identify his or her strengths, changing internal negative talk to internal positive talk. Psycho-education is necessary to help the client understand how the body and mind work together to create aliveness and joy or pain and sadness, and to normalize emotions that create how we feel. Ultimately, good therapy supports emotional maturity by allowing a quicker recovery time between a stressor and one's response to that stressor.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
What I love about being a therapist is that it inspires me daily. I love connecting with my clients, and I am honored to be part of their journey to improved mental/behavioral health, and to improved relationships. I have always been passionate about understanding others and their stories, so being able to do something I love on a daily basis is very rewarding.
