I work with people who feel anxious, unhappy, dissatisfied, or confused by their current life situation. Sometimes the focus of distress can be traced to difficulties with friendships, romance, family relationships, career difficulties, addictions, past traumas or stress in general. Often, there is an underlying mood or anxiety problem that has made life difficult. If you're feeling "stuck" or find yourself repeating negative patterns, working with a therapist may provide you with the support and skills needed to make positive changes. I am an experienced psychotherapist in New York City with expertise in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma resolution, addictions, compulsions, eating disorders, self-esteem problems, transitions, crisis counselling, couples therapy and relationship difficulties. My training includes EMDR therapy, solution-focused therapy, CBT, DBT, mindfulness and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
I have varied, extensive training and years of experience helping adolescents, adults and couples discover ways to live creatively and authentically. I provide both short and long-term treatment. I've had great success using EMDR therapy for clients struggling with PTSD or those in need of trauma resolution.
I enjoy working with smart, creative, successful professionals, who feel they are not living up to their potential in work or personal relationships. Life may be further complicated by self-esteem difficulties, loneliness, disappointment, sadness, loss, past traumas, self-defeating patterns and marital difficulties. Many cope with challenges by turning to alcohol and other substance and behavioral addictions and compulsions.
Clients who work with me learn specific techniques to improve mood, reduce anxiety, increase self-confidence and master emotionally difficult situations, all of which result in greater peace of mind. I provide a welcoming environment, where your feelings and thoughts can discussed openly and effectively. My therapy approach fuses traditional insight-oriented expressive psychotherapy and evidence-based CBT therapy with cutting-edge mind/body techniques to help clients resolve difficult past experiences, understand problematic patterns and dynamics and develop personal strengths and skills to lead more fulfilling lives.
In my work with couples, I treat both gay and straight couples, struggling with communication and infidelity issues drawing from the work of Non Violent Communication (NVC), Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
I am an out-of-network insurance provider and am able to provide you with a completed insurance form that makes it easy for you to submit for reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company to find out what mental health benefits your plan covers. Please email, call or use my website online scheduler to arrange a consultation.
Blending psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR therapy, CBT, DBT skills, Non-Violent Communication (NVC), coaching and mindfulness techniques in an individualized approach, I am able to address the following concerns:
Simple and complex traumas
Substance abuse and addictions using a modified EMDR method called the Feeling State Addiction Protocol (FSAP)

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
it is important to find a therapist with the training and skills that are suited to address your particular needs. The most important factor in choosing a therapist is to find someone that you feel comfortable sharing your concerns with. Much of the healing occurs in the context of the relationship--a good client/therapist fit is key. A face-to-face consultation is the best way to learn about and interview a potential therapist.
