Being a therapist is an honor. I am honored to hear of your vulnerabilities, secrets, deepest fears and biggest dreams. Together we create a safe space where you describe where you are trying to go and what you think may stand in your way. We try to clear the barriers with a gentle, firm compassion. We locate your strengths and entertain ways to help you engage them in the difficulties you confront. I believe in your ability to find the resources you need, and in the therapeutic relationship itself: a place of safety where someone hears you, cares about you, encourages you, and is present with you in your pain.

I have over 25 years of experience in psychology, having practiced in various communities using a broad range of interventions. I am empaneled with many insurance companies. The support staff for the agency is extremely helpful and will answer any logistical questions you may have.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Back in the 1980s, Nick Cummings Ph.D. suggested the use of 'brief intermittent therapy throughout the lifespan.' Although not exactly on purpose, I have found that this approach is often the most useful for people. You do some work in therapy, get some new ideas, try them out in life, and see how they fly. Perhaps an event occurs that knocks you off your game or completely derails you. You pop back in to therapy for a bit. There may be a period when therapy is frequent and of longer duration, when you're working through family of origin issues for the first time, or when you're going through a catastrophic situation. I had therapy when I was training to be a therapist, then when I had trouble getting pregnant, then when I had a couple of really hard family situations. The therapy was years apart and with three different people (so far). We don't exactly arrive, we keep working and growing, and therapy is one of the important, powerful tools that helps us get there.
