I believe that relationships are the foundation of our lives and when relationships get out of whack, we can end up feeling anxious, confused, sad, and unhappy. I take a holistic perspective to health care and am concerned with the overall, long-term well-being of individuals and their families. When we think about how much time we spend learning how to do all the other tasks in our lives, how can we expect to "just know" how to develop a great relationship?

Even though most marriages start out hopeful, day-to-day stress can lead to a drop in marital satisfaction. This is particularly true when we are not getting along with our partner. In the healthiest marriages, partners share a deep sense of meaning; they don't just get along they also support each other's hopes and sense of purpose.

I teach basic interventions that help partners feel a renewed sense of caring and partnership. Recent research shows that there are two exceptionally vulnerable periods in a relationship. It is well known that half of all divorces take place within the first seven years, but there is another vulnerable period later in the life of the marriage.

We also know that couples wait to seek help an average of six years after experiencing their first serious marital difficulties. In fact, a study released in 1997 estimated that less than 1% of couples who divorced had any type of marriage counseling or therapy.

Groups I Work With

With over 12 years of experience in mental health treatment, I began my career advocating for healthy, balanced relationships. With a focus on families in transition, I gravitate toward clients moving through stages such as marriage and divorce, childbirth and parenting, as well as education and career choices.

I am in the field of mental health and wellness. Most people are familiar with the terms counseling and therapy which often denote problems, pathology, diagnoses and other things to be removed or fixed. While some of my clients may have symptoms of things like depression, anxiety, or transitional issues, I prefer to see the strengths, uniqueness, and possibilities that exist in their lives. I work with the whole person, rather than just the problem.
