Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about how we might work together. Choosing the right therapist is the first step in getting the assistance you want, and it enhances the possibility of successful therapy. For over 27 years, I have been providing therapy in a private practice setting, working with a variety of concerns, pain, trauma, and "stuckness." We all struggle in our lives, and understanding how we are 'stuck' is one way to start moving out of the predicament in which we feel trapped.

Pain and trauma can take many forms or kinds of life problems. Sometimes our grief and loss is overpowering. Sometimes our sense of self is confusing; sometimes feelings of anxiety are all encompassing; depression is so large that even getting out of bed is a challenge. We will start right where you are.

We can work on addiction issues, complications of family or relationships, or job concerns. I am familiar with identity issues, gender orientation, crisis, and life transition. I will commit to intentional, empathic, and informed work with you. Our work together will facilitate a safe place to explore your individual, couple, or family concerns. Successful therapy can help you meet goals, to find your way to new skills, a changed attitude, and gaining hope about your unique possibilities.

More Info About My Practice

I am in a private practice setting and am an 'out-of-network' provider for insurances, but provide you with the necessary paperwork to submit your bill. Many people get reimbursed by their insurance companies with this option. Because I am not an 'in-network' provider, I have little involvement with insurance companies leaving our work more private. This affords me the ability to more focus my energies on you and our work together, rather than responding to these companies about the work we are doing.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My training has been in the fields of trauma, domestic abuse, childhood neglect, abandonment, and physical and sexual abuse. I am equipped to deal with anxiety in many forms, including panic attacks, phobias, chronic anxiety; and major depression, chronic, ongoing depressive disorder, also, work with anger, communication, intimacy issues in various kinds of relationships; addiction recovery, grief and loss, those diagnosed with cancer, and other major medical diagnoses.

I very much enjoy couples work and have been trained in a number of approaches to be helpful to couples in distress. I use a number of modalities in my work including EMDR (I am a certified EMDR therapist), mindfulness skills, and some body-based forms (breath work, specific relaxation tools). I am also GLBTQ sensitive.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Good, successful therapy is a process in which trust is developed in, and as a result of, a caring, responsive, empathic relationship. Since most of us are wounded while in a relationship, be it our parent, sibling, friend, partner, or lover, I believe we are best healed by safe, reparative work within a therapeutic relationship. What can then happen is locating a place of peaceful, self acceptance within, which can move foreword into hopefulness (an expanded and more real self identity), shifting of attitudes, learning of new skill sets, informed, healthy choices, and joy.
