Therapy can help you improve your relationships, build confidence, overcome anxiety and/or depression, cope with crises, and ease suffering. The relief you feel when you finally solve a problem is life changing. After over 20 years as a psychologist, I believe in what I do. I encourage people to give therapy a try and see how they can benefit.
I became a psychologist for two reasons: 1) I benefitted from therapy personally. I want to help people the way I was helped. 2) I find the work exciting, fun and intellectually stimulating. I enjoy helping people live a better life.
Because my approach is based not only on my education but also on my life experience, you feel supported and understood. Our work is optimistic. We focus on your strengths and what you can do to make things better.

More Info About My Practice
As a 61 year old woman, I have been a single career woman, a wife, a working Mom, a stay at home Mom, divorced and an empty nester. Whatever your situation, I am likely to understand you.
I work out of my home, a bungalow built in 1924. People tell me they like coming here. The atmosphere is cozy and private . The large front porch, lovely woodwork, and wood floors create a timeless, relaxed environment. The old fashioned charm of my home office encourages careful contemplation and reflection. We take time to think things through and gain new perspective.
Are you interested in a no charge, initial telephone consultation? Feel free to call me and set up a time. After you tell me about the issues troubling you, I will give you an idea of how I would work with you. This way you can decide if I am the right therapist to help you before you invest any money.
Fees - $150.00 to $180.00 per session based on whether you pay cash or want me to bill insurance. Telephone sessions are $120.00 per session. I am an Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in-network provider. Some insurance companies offer out of network benefits even if I am not in their network. If you like, I can check with your insurance company before our first meeting to see if my services are covered.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
My specialties include anxiety disorders (including PTSD), depression, overeating, body image, chronic illness (including migraine), personal growth, change of life crises, relationship/marital issues, parenting, children age 10 through adolescence, divorce, grief recovery and school phobia. In all these areas, I have considerable experience. However, every person and problem is unique. In my general practice I treat a wide range of difficulties.
My most notable strengths:
Anxiety sufferers are reassured when they find that I have personally experienced the feeling of crippling anxiety. I healed my own anxiety and can help you heal too.
In couples therapy my strength is in figuring out the tricky interactions of marriage and helping you understand each other better. As a result, many couples use therapy to create a happier and closer marriage. However, when marriages fail, we work together to reduce the damage of divorce.
Do you have a chronic illness? As someone who has personally overcome chronic illness, I understand the isolating and discouraging effects of health issues. I know how to help you find hope and health.
After my fiance died, I learned how to help people heal from grief.
Students who suffer from school phobia benefit from my gentle and effective approach.
Do you struggle with eating and your weight? With almost 30 years ago of experience working with eating disorders I have unique insight into the complicated issues surrounding diet and appearance.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
In therapy, we systematically and carefully evaluate your life and situations. This attention allows you to make thoughtful changes that have a positive effect on your life and the lives of those around you. Some have a mistaken idea that people who come to therapy are deficient and can't handle life as well as those who do not come to therapy. In general I find the opposite to be true. The people who seek therapy are usually intelligent and proactive. They come to therapy because they have the courage to try new things and are determined to find the best solutions for their problems.
