Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

It's been my observation that people don't usually seek therapy as a "first resort" but after they have tried other ways of coping with life's difficulties -- avoidance, substance use, self-harm, money, sex, etc. I fully understand how stressful and "exposed" it can feel to talk to a counselor. In other words: for most of us, it's an emotional risk. To make change means to try new ways of understanding, of being, and of acting. The foundation for risk-taking in therapy and then in your life is the stable and solid therapeutic relationship. None of us will "rock the boat" when we're standing up in a canoe! The more solid the ground under your feet, the greater the leap you can make. It is a privilege for me to provide a solid, reliable, and authentically genuine base, so that you can stretch to your fullest.
