More Info About My Practice

For your convenience, I accept cash and most major credit cards. I am a fee-for-service provider meaning I am paid by clients at the time of service, and then clients who wish to use their insurance benefits submit a statement for services rendered to their insurance company for reimbursement. Some clients have used their insurance plan's Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account to pay for counseling services. Perhaps this is something your plan offers. Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

A newly recognized therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.). A.R.T. is an eye movement therapy shown to be effective for treating combat-related PTSD. More information about the research conducted on A.R.T. as a treatment model for PTSD can be found at www.IS-ART.com. Through Accelerated Resolution Therapy people have found relief from many types of disturbing memories or traumatic experiences such as vehicular crashes, medical trauma, past childhood abuse, sexual assault, traumatic grief, and unresolved anger to name a few. Most people find relief in one to six sessions. However, there are some people for whom A.R.T. is contraindicated and a certified A.R.T. practitioner can provide additional information about these conditions. As for me, I am certified as a Master A.R.T. Practitioner, the highest level of certification available. I would be honored to discuss with you how you may be able to benefit from Accelerated Resolution Therapy.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

As much as different approaches to counseling and different therapists tout one therapy over another, the fact is no one method, approach, or therapy works 100% of the time with 100% of the people or even 100% of the time with any one client. Research indicates therapy does work and it seems to work because of the therapeutic relationship rather than a specific approach or set of interventions. A concern mentioned often by clients is the side effects of many medications used in psychiatry. While medications can be helpful, they need not be the first line approach at dealing with many issues. I value and respect the use of medication when it is needed and have no reservations about working with people who have chosen to utilize medication as part of their treatment approach. The goal of counseling, whether it is with or without the use of medications, is to get you back in touch with your strengths so you can live life more enjoyably.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Life is about change and growth as we move towards identifying and realizing our hopes, aspirations, and purpose in life. This process of growth and change is a dynamic and ongoing process, one that is never finished during the course of our lifetime. While the quality of early life experiences are a factor in our overall feelings about life, it is not the sole factor. The era of brain studies has altered many preexisting beliefs about the ability of people to learn, change, and grow throughout the lifespan. What is thought "impossible" today is only impossible because we have not yet found the missing piece that makes the "impossible" possible. Giving up and throwing in the towel is an option that is sure to deliver a result but at what cost to you and those you care about? What challenges are you facing?
