I am a passionate therapist dedicated to helping you and your family achieve the results you seek from therapy. I understand that seeking therapy can be a difficult decision to make, so I am committed to providing a positive and comfortable experience throughout therapy. Therapy always goes at the pace that you choose, and I value interactive feedback while deciding on a treatment plan. Every single child and family is unique; therefore, I design custom treatment plans for each individual based on their needs and desires.

I serve children, teens, and families in my counseling office. My specialties include working with trauma, depression and anxiety, ADHD, academic difficulties, behavioral problems such as anger or defiance, sexual abuse, foster and adoption, and attachment issues. After a thorough assessment (which includes individual observations, school collaboration, and parent feedback), we will discuss diagnosis and plan a course of treatment. Depending on your child, we will choose to use play therapy, sand tray work, family therapy, expressive arts, individual therapy, mindfulness training, parent coaching, or a combination of aforementioned. I also specialize in Theraplay, which is a parent-child relationship based form of therapy.

We would be honored to serve you and your family. The future depends on what you do today.

My Therapy Focus

I am an attachment based therapist with a knowledge base of neuro-sequential brain development. What does this mean to you? Well, it means that I base my treatment plans with a scientific approach of understanding how a child's neural networks "came online" throughout infancy and childhood in order to create the most effective means to healing.

Science over the last 20 years has been heavily focused on the science of attachment, and how these experiences when adverse, are linked to emotional dysregulation in children. Through playful interactions with parents and the therapist, we have the power to reverse adverse experiences and reconnect and re-wire relationships to foster resilience, self control, and self-responsibility in children. Children and adolescents are developing identities that require connection, and we assess these levels in treatment and work to promote healthy interactions with family members, peers, and self.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Finding the right therapist is like trying to find the perfect hat or pair of shoes...sometimes you have to try on a few before it fits just right. Trust, humor, knowledge, and professionalism are all factors you should assess when you are seeking therapy.

If you have been to therapy before and had a less than great experience, please don't be discouraged. I myself have been to therapists that I just don't connect with, and that is okay! Because when you do find that right fit, you will be soaring off into achieving your desired results very quickly.

I suggest coming up with a list of things that you and/or your child values when building a relationship with someone therapeutically. Is it easier to open up to a male or female? Do you value having someone younger who can relate generationally to your teen or do you value someone with years of experience? Do you value someone with a really professional website or does that not really matter to you?

Really think about what you need from a therapist in order to feel safe and secure, then start your search! If I meet your criteria, then I hope to hear from you! If not, feel free to give me a call and I can refer you to another really great therapist in Houston.
