Are you or a loved one struggling and trying to cope with a present hardships or past trauma? If so, my message to you is this: Sometimes we need to reach out for help, and that's OK.

Though you may feel different from others, that does not mean you are broken, disordered, or a diagnostic label; and as a unique individual you are more than a simple categorization, so therapy should look different for you than for anyone else. My goal as a therapist is not merely for you to achieve a reduction of symptoms, but to help you define and build for yourself a life you consider fulfilling. I plan on helping you identify and utilize your strengths, make use of available resources, foster meaningful relationships, and orient yourself for where you are on your life journey.

I don't pass judgment in my practice. I encourage you to bring your authentic self without fear of reprisal, and if you are not sure what that looks like, no worries! We can figure that out together!

My Role as a Therapist

Some things that help me stay true to my role as a therapist are to recognize the individual worth of every person, and that the infinite potential inherent in each person defies my ability to fully comprehend. I therefore believe in leaving myself open to surprise and avoid assuming my knowledge and understanding gives me authoritative privileges over what is best for you. My role is to facilitate your own understanding, emotional mastery, self-discovery, or whatever else you seek from therapy. Coming to therapy is not a guarantee that your problems will be resolved. Oftentimes problems are fundamentally unsolvable and learning to cope with adversity is the best you can do; although it should be noted that learning to live with hardship can be a transformative and life-changing development in your life. Reaching your goals will require hard work and dedication, and curiosity and openness on your part will also help a great deal. If you're ready to take that challenge head on then give me a call or send an email so we can get started!
