Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I feel particularly adept at helping people with Trichotillomania, a chronic hair-pulling disorder. Trichotillomania is actually an impulse-control disorder that can create immense emotional struggles of low self-image and self-worth. Unfortunately, Trichotillomania is not well known among professionals, even among therapist. I learned about Trichotillomania when my daughter developed it several years ago. My daughter pulled out all of her eye lashes and eye brows for many years. Going to school became incredibly hard for her because it was very noticeable that her eye lashes and eye brows were missing. Fortunately, my daughter overcame her Trichotillomania and is now pull free, with the help of tools that I developed, and with her motivation to stop! Some common signs to look for with someone who might have Trichotillomania are bald spots on the scalp, missing eye lashes and eye brows, and an intense urge to pull specific hairs. If you think you or a loved one may have Trichotillomania, I can help. I have developed strategies to help children, teens and adults learn to fight their urges and prevent them from pulling their hair.
My Role as a Therapist
I see my role as a therapist as one who strives to understand the hurt, pain, and sufferings of those who see me, and to help those in my care feel safe and accepted. Not all therapists are a good fit, but it is my mission to be the type of counselor who is friendly and puts others at ease. My Christian values shape my worldview and provide me with a framework for helping hurting people find hope in the midst of despair. Although I am a Christian, I certainly do not force my values on anyone, but I offer Christian counseling to those who desire it. My role as a therapist is not only to provide the best professional counseling possible, but also a genuine concern for the welfare of those who see me. I believe that you will notice when you come for a session that my warm and caring personality will help make you feel comfortable.
