At 5 years old, I wasn't the average child. I was one of those 'old souled' kids, that preferred sitting by my Grandfather's at home hospital bed, as he was fighting a tough battle with bone cancer. I would talk to him, hold his hand, incite joy when possible, listen to my Grandmother and Mother cry comforting them. In doing so, my family gave me a beautiful gift by helping me find my calling at a very early age. I am certain my family experiences changed the trajectory of where my life take me not only professionally but personally. I was always the kid that had empathy for others, sympathized with my schoolmates around me who were struggling during my teen years, and carried those positive qualities with me into adulthood. My career choice came naturally; I knew my calling was to be in the helping profession, particularly in the counseling/therapy world. I love people; they truly excite me! I enjoy hearing life stories of people and advocating for them when they are unable to do it for themselves. I'm a listener, motivator, cheerleader, encourager, realistic, down to earth fellow person that believes everyone deserves the right to find their inner peace and happiness, a positive mental spirit and the will to want to wake up on the morning and face this unpredictable, sometimes rough world we live and need to coexist in. Some people just require a helping hand, and that's where I come in... Over the past 15 years, I have worked in the mental health field offering individual, couples, group, family and online therapy, treating more more afflictions than I have room to list here. My journey has allotted me the opportunity to have a private practice, also work in the prison systems providing individual, group and psychopharmacology therapy to inmates. I also do consultation work offering family therapy to foster care facilities. I absolutely love my work/calling and that will be quite evident when we talk. I look forward to it!

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Just like we go to the gym to exercise our bodies, we need to exercise our minds and psychotherapy is a great tool to help in that area. You go to the chiropractor when you are out of alignment or for a massage when you're feeling tense but we often neglect our brains, which needs some TLC as well. Our minds must be stimulated and we do that by communication, thinking and processing our thoughts during therapy. Counseling does a body good. It's a kind of body maintenence that more people need to realize the essential benefits of.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

Helping other people find their inner sense of peace and happy place is what I love about what I do. It's a calling and I consider it a privilege to do the kind of work I do. When people allpw me into their world and finally become comfortable enough to trust me with their innermost thoughts and feelings, I consider that a gift that I cherish and respect. Knowing people feel better because of the work we've done together and have a better positive outlook on life is the biggest joy of my life and is truly my purpose.

My Role as a Therapist

To put one foot in one of your shoes and take your journey with you, offering a listening ear and guidance when needed, to assist you in taking the right path in life.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help

Good therapy takes some time. No one is going to be comfortable spilling everything about their life in a hour. A great therapeutic relationship takes a few sessions to build. Trust in a counselor/therapist is earned and it comes with time. Some people find it easier to open up to me right away and others don't immediately; there's no right or wrong answer. So, you must gage how comfortable you feel with me and what you'd like to tell me and talk about at your own pace. I may ask if you a few questions in the beginning just to learn a little about you and to get the conversation started, then we'll go from there.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

My advice is to just give it a try and you might just be pleasantly surprised. Often times there is so much shame still associated with going to therapy. It shouldn't be. If you were diabetic you would treat yourself with medication to help with your diabetes. If you have high blood pressure you do things to help lower it but often times anything above the neck there is a negative stigma associated with treatment of issues to do with the brain. That's something I wish more people can understand. If you're going through a hard time you treat yourself to a little therapy. There is nothing to feel bad about or uncomfortable with... if anything you should feel proud that you're willing to take a positive, proactive step to help your mental well-being. And if you're reading this, you're already on your way!! *applause*
