The women I work with have now or have had in the past an eating disorder. If this is you then you know your eating disorder and all the thinking, planning and emotions connected to the eating disorder hobble your life. Even when the behaviors are less the eating disorder way of thinking and relating to others can stay the same. My work with you will range over your full experience in living, from your dreams and yearnings to your actions in work, relationships and play. We explore and gradually remove what has prevented you from living more fully and with greater satisfaction. Then we are able to bring confidence and new strength to your developing a happier life, often with your following through on the neglected but living dreams of your heart.

More Info About My Practice

Often people have read or are in the process of reading my book, Healing Your Hungry Heart: recovering from your eating disorder (Conari Press) before they see me. If this is the case then they may incorporate into their psychotherapy with me the exercises in the book.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Sometimes a woman doesn't know how low her self esteem has dropped because she is accustomed to being minimized by others until that negativity seems normal and becomes her own self talk. Supporting her as she takes her own power and self esteem back because she learns to recognize her own value is one of the great joys in doing this work.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Psychotherapy is about healing the psyche. When you have psychological wounds you may not know what they are. You know you feel pain, frustration and maybe fear and anxiety. You look for understanding and help. You certainly can identify the problems in your life. However, the very wounds that need healing block your awareness about the real source of your troubles and how to resolve them.

Psychotherapy moves you through the visible difficulties in your life and into the areas below your current level of awareness where deep healing occurs. Then emotional strength and psychological development is possible. The surface problems which may be quite serious, such as troubles in relationships, career, family, phobias, eating, exercise, body perception and more become easier to manage and resolve. Because of your work in psychotherapy you respond differently and in a more healthy and sturdy way to the old triggers that lose their power. Your self esteem and your perception of reality gain strength and you are able to live more freely and follow your authentic personal goals.
