Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I think the most important factor in choosing a therapist comes down to a gut feeling. For me, therapeutic growth can only come from a strong connection between the two of us. You'll know when you've met the person you'd like to try working with. Even if you're nervous or uncomfortable (which is very normal, by the way), you'll feel like coming back. Some questions I've asked myself are: Do I feel safe with this person? Is this someone who seems interested in getting to know me? Does this person seem to have a sense of what I need?

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Many people enter therapy with feelings of shame or guilt about seeking outside help, sometimes keeping their decision from their family or partner. Once the work begins, however, people realize quickly that therapy has nothing to do with being "crazy" or "weak" or "flawed." People seeking therapy want to know themselves better, gain support from a caring professional, and feel confident in their abilities to live the lives they want.
