Welcome. I tailor my approach to fit each individual client, as everyone's personality and situation are unique. I believe people have the ability to make positive changes and I work to help clients identify & navigate the steps necessary to achieving these changes. I utilize a blend of counseling techniques that not only have a lot of evidence to show they really work, but also develop clients' strengths. Developing clients' strengths can help them to overcome their current challenges AND can help them to handle problems down the road. I offer an attitude of openness, respect and humor in a relaxed setting.

More Info About My Practice

While many counselors are trained to be rather hidden and neutral, I try to speak openly from my heart. I'm a real person who sincerely wants to help. My clients have told me that my genuine and non-judgmental style helps them feel relaxed and secure. I'm passionate about helping clients live life to the fullest, and to assist people who are grieving or facing catastrophic change to find peace of mind with their "new normal".

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

Most people won't connect with every therapist; however, nearly all of my clients have expressed that they felt better owing to our collaborative work. The word "collaborative" is key. I work very hard during sessions to provide as many insights and tools that I feel might be beneficial. However, clients who have made the most progress are the ones who worked hard at applying techniques in their day-to-day lives.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Most therapists try to achieve "empathy" for what the client is feeling. However, if a client tells me they've fallen into icy water I can have a much greater level of empathy if I've actually fallen into icy water myself!
I also have experienced the power and wisdom of setting small, incremental goals in order to maximize the odds of reaching a larger goal. My diverse background -- that includes the business world -- gave me many "real-life ICE water moments".
