Delray Beach is a city is Palm Beach County, Florida. It has a land area of 16 square miles. Originally called “Linton,” the area was renamed “Delray” in 1898. The Town of Delray and Delray Beach merged to form the City of Delray Beach in 1927.

Delray Beach has 67,400 inhabitants. Eighty-seven percent of people in the city are American citizens (compared to a national rate of 93%). Delray Beach has a large retirement population. The median age in the city is 47 years.

Foreign-born residents make up 25% of the population in Delray Beach. The ethnic composition of the population is 57% white, 29% black, 10% Hispanic, and 2% Asian. Thirty percent of residents speak a language other than English at home. Delray Beach has 8,100 French Creole speakers, 4,900 Spanish speakers, and 600 French speakers.
