Maitland is a city in Orange County, Florida. It covers 5 square miles. Originally called “Fumecheliga” by the Seminole Indians, it was established as Fort Maitland by the United States Army in 1838. The city is named after captain William Seton Maitland.

Maitland has 17,500 inhabitants. The number of residents grew by 11% between 2010 and 2016. An estimated 96% of people in Maitland are United States citizens. The racial composition of Maitland is 68% white, 14% black, 13% Hispanic, and 3% Asian. 

The average age in Maitland is 40 years old. Among residents over age 25, an estimated 58% have a bachelor’s degree, and 21% have a graduate or professional degree. The unemployment rate is roughly 5%.
