Lawrenceville is the government seat of Gwinnett County, Georgia. The city was named after Captain James Lawrence, who served as a naval commander in the War of 1812. The city of Lawrenceville was incorporated in 1821.

According to the Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC), mental health is a growing issue in Gwinnett County. These numbers motivated city and health officials to invest $2.9 million to address the county’s psychiatric boarding needs. The new behavioral unit will be able to hold eight people at a time. Health care staff will monitor the unit 24 hours a day.
