About Reno

Reno is the administrative center of Washoe County, Nevada. The city covers 103 square miles and is situated on the Truckee River. Reno was incorporated in 1879. The city is home to the University of Nevada and the Nevada Historical Society.

Mental Health in Reno

Mental health and addiction are major concerns in Reno. City officials believe residents may decide not to seek treatment due to the stigma associated with a mental health or addiction diagnosis. In a 2016 report, Mental Health America ranked the state of Nevada last for mental health. Eighteen percent of Reno residents under the age of 65 do not have medical insurance.

On October 19, 2017, the city of Reno held a two-day summit. On the first day, a panel of local behavioral health experts answered residents’ questions on mental health and treatment. The second day was dedicated to teaching local businesses and community leaders how to connect employers and constituents with local resources.
