We know more about how the brain works than ever before. Young brains are not fully developed so young people have unique problems. They are, more than others, in a period of self discovery. Our job is to give them skills and strategies to deal with the complex emotions and issues that they are faced with daily.
My goal is to help young people, and adults, develop the ability to face life successfully and thrive. I prefer an approach called "Solution Focused Brief Therapy" as well as mindfulness practices and helping clients gain self understanding. I believe that positive approaches, such as these, are more likely to result in permanent change.
Being an intern, and a newcomer to therapy, gives me certain advantages. Knowledge of human psychology is constantly advancing. Therefore, the coursework at St. Edwards University where I earned my Master's Degree, incorporated the most recent research available. I have also completed coursework in Somatic Experiencing, EMDR and brain science.
As my photo suggests, I am not a young man. l have been married almost 20 years, have raised 3 children and had a successful career in business. I have a lot of experience with life. This makes me a better counselor. As a young man I conquered a substance abuse problem and now have over 30 years of continuous sobriety. I have the intimate knowledge of addiction that only someone that has experienced it can have.
