I'm a psychiatrist with 30+ years of experience as a practitioner of an innovative, humanistic group therapeutic approach called Social Therapy. In our ongoing weekly groups, people work together to create an environment in which everyone in the group can develop emotionally. Participating in this highly creative--and challenging-- activity is the most powerful way I know for people to get help with their emotional difficulties and pain.

As the Medical Director of the Social Therapy Group's national network of therapy centers, I'm part of a multidisciplinary team of practitioners who work with adults, families, adolescents and children, including young people who have been diagnosed with one of the autism spectrum disorders and/or ADHD. We have pioneered multi-family social therapy groups in which several families--parents and their children--create, and develop, together.

Over the years I've come to believe that the medical model, which is the basis of traditional psychotherapeutic approaches, often turns out to be an obstacle to emotional growth and development. As social therapists, our team doesn't diagnose or label or categorize the people who come to us for help in terms of what's "wrong" with them. Instead, we work with them as partners in the process of creating the conditions for their growth and development: in sharing their difficulties and pain with me and one another, members of the group are turning those "raw materials" into emotional and social tools for the continuous creation of their lives.

Short term therapy for individuals and couples is also available as needed.
