There are times we are not able to move forward, even though we may know what we want, or at least know what we want to do differently. Either there is an internal feeling of being blocked, or of being overburdened, or anxiety gets in the way, or we simply end up in what comes to feel like an inevitably repeating unwanted pattern. We are unable to write a new script, or to change the way we feel, and we cannot understand why.

The truth is, for all of us there is much that motivates how we think, how we act, and even how we feel, but that remains outside of our awareness. We want to move forward, but there are times that something deep within seems to prevent us from doing so, and in one way or another, without our knowing why and seemingly against our will, change is prevented. But if we can bring these dynamics to light, if we can gain insight into these unconscious processes, then a shift becomes possible, and the change we are looking for can occur. So the core of my approach is to "open a window" into these pockets of our inner world that somehow keep us stymied.

More Info About My Practice

Who we are, what we want, and even what we need, is different for each of us, and so how I work, the nature of my interaction, is tailored to the individual I am working with and the situation they find themselves in. And whether we use psychoanalysis, which I have found to be one of the best tools for "opening the window", or a psychoanalytically informed alternative, our work occurs in an environment of safety, support, and the utmost confidentiality.

As a licensed psychotherapist with a doctoral degree in psychoanalysis, I have the knowledge and expertise to assist you. I am on the Board of Directors of the Newport Psychoanalytic Institute, and a member of their faculty. I have been a practitioner of Kriya Yoga meditation for over 35 years.

I offer an initial consultation session, for which there is no charge, so that we can get to know each other a bit, and get a sense of how it might feel to work together. If we decide to proceed, my fee is $150 for a 50-minute session, however I have a limited sliding scale in cases where there is financial hardship. For those who work during the day, I also have some evening availability.
