About Lacey

Lacey is a city in Thurston County, Washington. It is located on the southern tip of Puget Sound and covers 16 square miles. Lacey was incorporated in 1966. 

Lacey has a population of 50,000 people. The population grew by 17% from 2010 to 2017. Ninety-six percent of residents are American citizens, compared to 93% of people nationwide. Over 6,000 residents are military veterans.

The ethnic composition of Lacey is 66% white, 11% Hispanic, 9% Asian, and 5% black. Foreign-born people make up 10% of the population. Sixteen percent of residents speak a foreign language at home. Lacey is home to 2,300 Spanish speakers and 800 Korean speakers.

Lacey residents earn a mean annual wage of $28,200. The median household income is $59,600. The homeownership rate is 54%. Roughly 11% of people in Lacey live below the poverty line. 

Mental Health in Lacey

In 2008, Thurston County enacted a treatment sales tax. The funds are used to support local diversion, substance abuse, and mental health treatment programs. As of 2017, the TST program saves the community an estimated $4 for every $1 spent.
