My approach as a therapist is heartfelt, direct, engaging, and down-to-earth. I believe the therapeutic relationship can be very powerful, where emotional presence and human connection together are used as a catalyst for personal revelation, insight, and change. Beginning therapy together we start where you are now, in the present moment. As the therapy process develops we will discover which techniques and styles of therapy work best for you.

Adult Individual Therapy: Looking to our past experiences, relationships, personal beliefs, feelings, and behaviors we can begin to redefine ourselves and construct happier, healthier, balanced lives. While many times a mixture of coaching and collaborative problem-solving techniques are used in individual therapy, this process of truly getting to "know yourself" not only helps to create change in the present, but also creating lasting change for the future.

Adolescent Therapy: Building rapport and gaining trust are very important elements to my approach to therapy in general and even more crucial to my approach with teens. Whether the issues are related to depression, trauma, stress, or major transitions, helping a teen uncover his/her sense of self, find their voice, and a means of appropriately communicating this voice can offer relief not only for teens, but for the entire family as well.

Couples/Relationship Therapy: So many issues can disrupt what our relationships are "supposed" to look like: affairs, addictions, ex-partners, blended families, grief/loss, and other major life transitions just to name a few. These, and many other stresses, all create secondary issues that can hurt our relationships. Sometimes we need to reconstruct the very foundation of our relationship, while other times simple, minor tune-ups are needed. Together I can help your relationship communicate more effectively, clarify and express needs, learn to hear, accept and accommodate each other, build trust, and recover intimacy.

Fees: $140 for a standard 50 minute session

More Info About My Practice

I work with individuals and couples specializing in depression, anxiety, life transitions, divorce, infidelity, blended families, GLBT issues, profound loss & grief, chemical & behavioral addiction, adult children of alcoholics, and co-dependency.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

While I enjoy working with a variety of clients with different issues, over the past ten years I have developed a specialty working with couples (pre-marriage, re-marriage, blended-families, infidelity, etc), behavioral and chemical addictions (alcoholism, pills addiction, gambling addiction, sex/love addiction), as well as gay and lesbian individual, couples, and family issues.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Studies show us that rapport with your therapist is the single most important factor in having a positive outcome in therapy. While most therapists are educated and licensed to treat clients, finding that therapist that "feels right" is truly the most important factor. Take some time to call a few therapists and have a short phone conversation with them. First off, therapists that call you back within 24 hours are worthy of having a short "goodness of fit" conversation with. Again, trust your feelings.
