I provide counseling to adults, couples, children, and adolescents in a warm, respectful environment. My primary goal is to guide you to a stronger sense of self, a firmer commitment towards your chosen values, and a place where you can feel at peace with yourself and those around you. I specialize in anxiety, depression, abuse and trauma, stress management, relational issues, effective parenting, and therapy for interracial couples.

I conducted research in the psychology department at the University of Chicago, and my clinical work with children and adolescents is informed by best practices in developmental psychology. I completed a year of intensive training in child development at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute and have practiced as a school-based behavior therapist and a family specialist for the Department of Children and Family Services. I am also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and narrative models of therapy.

I use Imago Relationship Therapy in my work with couples, an approach that teaches partners how to transform conflict into opportunities for deeper intimacy and connection and make the unconscious aspects of their relationship conscious. Imago Therapy is an effective approach that can heal a relationship on the brink of break-up and provide the tools that allows couples to live as passionate partners and allies. I also specialize in counseling individuals who may need extra guidance with an interracial partnership.

I am committed to nurturing a trusting relationship in my practice where clients can feel safe to explore their thoughts and feelings, thereby achieving a deeper sense of self-awareness and an ability to live an integrated, balanced life. My specialties include:
Social anxiety
Trauma and abuse
Effective parenting
Childhood disorders (adjustment/ separation anxiety/ school difficulties/ ADHD)
Grief and loss
Couples therapy (interracial partnerships)

Recent peer-reviewed publications include:

"A Comparison of Three Major Couple Approaches: IRT, EFT, and Gottman Method Couple Therapy," The Therapist magazine, California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, Nov/Dec 2015.

More Info About My Practice

I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Chicago, with a B.A. in Religious Studies. I received a Masters' degree in Clinical Psychology (M.S.W.) from the prestigious Brown School of Social Work at Washington University and then went on to complete a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (M.F.T.) at Pepperdine University. I have worked extensively with children and adolescents who suffer from depression, anxiety, relational and school issues. I also work with individuals and couples in private practice in Orange, CA. I offer marital counseling using both EFT and IRT approaches, which are effective for couples who are dealing with the aftershock of an affair or other marital crisis, or simply want to reconnect and invigorate their relationship. I also have a special interest in counseling interfaith and interracial couples.

I practice from an insight-oriented, psychodynamic perspective but also draw on cognitive behavioral and existential theory to inform my approach. I view every person who enters my office as someone with a unique history and set of issues, with the ability to grow and realize their potential. I'm not treating a problem; I'm treating a person.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Therapy is an ongoing process and a collaboration between therapist and client. I find that the best way to approach therapy is to be patient and to trust in the process. Over time, you should start to feel more calm and confident. You'll find that problems don't seem as overwhelming as they once did and that you can cope with whatever is thrown your way. You'll be able to see situations in a new light and move in directions that once seemed blocked off to you.

I offer 50-minute sessions once per week, but I'm also open to different arrangements depending on need. Please contact me directly if you'd like to schedule an appointment.
