Empower. Heal. Grow. This is the framework of our therapeutic journey. We believe that each and every one of us has the inner strength to achieve their desired goals, dreams, relationships, and healing. Our life experiences may have kept us from recognizing that we have this inner strength. Our circumstances and life events may convince use we have lost it. But it still exists within us, yearning to be activated. Our approach to therapy incorporates that belief. With your collaboration, treatment will be structured around the uniqueness of you, your life, and your relationship. Our approach addresses the whole person, couple and/or family to remove stresses that can make healing and accessing your inner strength difficult. We will be genuine, empathetic, empowering, and will provide a safe, supportive space to connect, heal and grow.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have had successful experiences working with people to resolve depression, increase positive self-esteem, and to stop self-harming. I have received additional training in assessing and intervening with people experiencing suicidality, however I do not work with clients who are actively suicidal. Those who are actively suicidal should be assessed at your local emergency room immediately.

I have had successful experiences working with people who have experienced the loss of a loved one, as well as the loss of a relationship or other significant loss. Although, these losses are very different from one another, they share a commonality of emotional pain, morning, and loss of a specific future dream.

Sometimes as we try to cope with traumas, depression, and loss, we may find unhealthy ways to cope or relieve emotional pain, such as self-harm, drugs or alcohol. Substance abuse and addiction should be simultaneously addressed with the co-occurring mental and emotional problems, which is why I received additional training in alcohol and drug treatment. I am an alcohol and drug counselor and have experience working with teens and adults struggling with substance abuse and addiction.

My Therapy Focus

Although I have worked with many types of problems or issues, I find that the focus of my therapeutic work is on processing trauma. Trauma responses can occur from experiencing or witnessing childhood neglect and abuse, sexual trauma, domestic violence, and by traumatic experiences such as war or neighborhood violence. These are just a few types of traumatic experiences. Traumatic experiences can cause short-term responses to trauma (Acute Stress Disorder) and longer, more debilitating symptoms (Post-Traumatic stress Disorder (PTSD)) related to the unprocessed trauma responses. I have received additional trainings in trauma processing and have experience working with women with symptoms of PTSD.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Choosing a therapist can be exciting, and it can be overwhelming. So many options and styles to choose from. And that is great! No two people are alike and that goes for therapists too. You will be creating a relationship, a therapeutic relationship, which will ideally enhance your treatment. We believe that it is one of the most important factors to having a positive experience and a positive outcome in therapy. Research also supports this belief. So as you move forward in your search, it is helpful to keep in mind the practical things like location and cost, but don't forget the connection.
