Everyone struggles with life and feels "down" from time to time, regardless of age, gender, or circumstances. Personally, I have gone through down times as well, and I believe that it is possible to overcome and even learn from these struggles to live with greater freedom, purpose and joy.
Embarking on a journey in counselling is not always easy, but I believe and have witnessed the difference it can make. One of the aspects of my work that I enjoy is being able to celebrate successes as you progress toward your goals. As a counsellor, my role is to support, inspire, challenge and motivate my clients in a safe and confidential environment.
Although asking for help can be a difficult thing to do, I aim to provide a safe and comfortable environment where you can take that leap. I work collaboratively with clients-where you get to decide how much of your story you are comfortable sharing with me. I help you get "unstuck" from potentially destructive or harmful patterns at your pace, trusting that as you become more attuned to your inner world, you will learn to reflect on thoughts, opinions, feelings and beliefs that will naturally help you move towards healing.
When working with clients one-on-one, I use an integrative client-based approach calling upon various therapeutic approaches such as Person-centered, Cognitive-Behavioural, Existential, Gestalt, Emotion-focused, Solutions-focused, and Expressive Arts therapy.
I am a registered and licensed professional counsellor with the Malaysia Board of Counsellors, and I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Cerny Smith Assessment (for stress), Psychological First Aid and I am also receiving training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an empirically-supported treatment for trauma. Through continuous supervision and keeping up with the latest research, I ensure that I provide my best service to clients while adhering to ethical standards of therapy. My work experience includes over twenty years in organisational administration, marketing, and Employee Assistance Programme management. I provide talks to corporate employees on topics related to managing stress and mental well being.
I speak fluent English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia.

More Info About My Practice
I also offer distance therapy, also known as phone therapy or Internet therapy, has evolved over the years as the therapeutic world has embraced the digital age. I offer different forms of distance therapy in an effort to reach a wider range of people in various locations and across distances. As the names imply, phone therapy and online therapy do not use in-person, face-to-face communication as the primary mode of therapy.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
My work frequently leads me to clients with issues related to major life events (eg. divorce, break-ups, financial crises, health issues, quarter or mid-life crises), post-traumatic stress (PTSD), mood disorders, depression, anxiety, work-related stress, anger, blended family issues, grief and loss, and lack of self-esteem. I have been privileged to work with a variety of clients ranging from young adults to the elderly, from diverse racial, social and economic backgrounds, including locals and expatriates.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
"Everyone is destined to experience not only the exhilaration of life, but also it inevitable darkness: disillusionment, aging, illness, loss, meaninglessness, painful choices, and death? We are all in this together and there is no person immune to the inherent tragedies of existence." - (Irvin Yalom, 2002)
"When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves."
- Viktor E. Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning
My Role as a Therapist
As a counselor, my role is to support, inspire, challenge and motivate my clients in a safe and confidential environment.
As a marriage and family therapist, I am passionate about helping individuals get clarity concerning the state of their marriage. As such, I believe in marriage. I like to see happy and successful partnerships, and when I do marriage therapy, I aim to help a marriage be the best it can be. Nonetheless, I am aware that not every marriage can or should be saved. Individual and relationship undercurrents can help decide if the marriage still has a pulse. If there is still some life there, I am going to encourage the couple to dive in and revive and improve their relationship. In such cases, my job is to guide and encourage the couples to do the work to make healing happen.
If the relationship cannot be saved, I will help the couple go through the difficult and painful process of separation and/or divorce. These are emotionally difficult events, but cooperation and communication can make breakup healthier for everyone involved. Talking things through with therapist may help reach coordinated decisions with a minimum of conflict.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
I have personally experienced change and transformation through counseling and psychotherapy. I marvel at the process of change. With that, I would like to reach out to help and assist individuals to experience the change process.
Nevertheless, change is not an easy process. Exploring and discovering oneself can be painful, that we experience wanting to give up in the journey. But it is only in experiencing pain that opens the way for healing and change to take place. Just like how a caterpillar metamorphose into a butterfly. This is how I see my clients transform.
