I am an addiction counselor, psychotherapist, and group therapist with more than 18 years of experience as a therapist. I also teach groups and individuals Life Force yoga and Hatha yoga. I have extensive training and experience in experiential, internal family systems, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based therapies.
Before becoming a therapist, I struggled with the devastating challenges of mood regulation. Struggling with anxiety, depression, and addiction, then undergoing the transformative healing that coincides with recovery, I have a deep understanding of myself. I have learned to live joyfully and make healthy practices a part of my daily life. I bring understanding and compassion to each session, drawing upon more own experiences of overcoming depression and anxiety. My education, training, and experience work together to nurture a heartfelt desire to make a difference by helping you.
As a practitioner of transcendental meditation, a teacher and student of yoga, and a person in recovery, I am committed to my continued growth. This commitment has produced a passionate dedication to helping others. My recovery has helped me improve my marriage and become a better parent.
I sought training from the best therapists and teachers, and have specialized training from many experts in the field. For instance, I trained under Amy Wientraub, the best-selling writer of Yoga for Depression. I am also qualified as an advanced level Life Force yoga teacher and practitioner. My other mentors have included James Windell and Anne Wilson Schaef, both of whom are best-selling authors. I have also trained with Ted Klontz, PhD, from Onsite, and regularly attend workshops overseen by other experts.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I feel especially adept at helping people with anxiety. I believe anxiety is at the root of most problems. Because of my own personal struggles I have learned first hand how to address these issues and I have extensive experience helping others to relax and feel comfortable in their own skin.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
The purpose of psychotherapy is to live joyfully, to learn about all the different aspects of ourselves and be "ok" with all parts. This does not mean we will always be happy. The whole range of feelings are important to honor for a full, meaningful life.
